ABOUT ME

Vanessa Sweet is a multidisciplinary artist that specializes in illustration and animated short films. She has created animations, illustrations and graphic design for such clients as Fandango, Hallmark, "General Hospital" , and more. Her motto is "think globally, act locally" and she has sought to embody this in her practices while she lived in various U.S locals like Pennsylvania, Los Angeles, New York and Alaska too. In 2017 she was awarded the Rasmuson Individual Artist Award that aided in her completion of her film Wild Woman. It has since gone on to be screened in over 45 festivals across the globe and won numerous awards, including the 2020 Gold Award in Animation at the UFVA Conference.

In 2021 She was awarded a fellowship for the Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts in Ithaca, NY. In her latest collaboration with director Nina J. Ross, she brought Meg Barrett's illustrations to life via animation in Bridging the Gap, screening now on BBC Four. A graduate of Experimental Animation at Calarts, she achieved her M.F.A in 2017. Currently she resides in Rochester, NY as an Assistant Professor at the School of Film and Animation at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Vanessa's work often touches upon themes of social and environmental advocacy, activism, and sustainability through the use of 2D animation.
